What stem cells are
Stem cells are cells able to renew themselves and to develop into different cell types. The interest in them in regenerative medicine comes from the idea that these properties might be put to use in tissue repair.
This field calls for plain speaking
Stem cells are among the most misrepresented subjects in aesthetics. For that reason we would rather set out the framework clearly from the start.
In Türkiye, stem cell applications fall under Ministry of Health regulation. Which application may be carried out, for which indication, and in which centre, is set by that regulation. Not everything offered under the heading of "stem cells" is the same thing, and not all of it sits in the same regulatory category.
The most accurate thing we can tell you is this: whether you are a candidate, which approach could reasonably be discussed, and what response might be expected, can only be determined after a detailed assessment and within the applicable regulations. Guaranteeing a result in this field is not defensible.
What the consultation covers
- Your medical history, current medications and any chronic conditions
- What you are hoping for, and whether that expectation is realistic
- Whether a more established alternative addresses the same goal
- The scope of the application, and its limits
In many cases there is another approach that reaches the intended result more predictably. Saying so is also part of practising medicine.
Established alternatives for the same goals
Most of the expectations raised under the heading of stem cells are, in substance, about supporting skin quality, stimulating tissue repair, or restoring lost volume. For each of those goals there are more predictable and better-established options.
If skin quality and tissue support are the aim, PRP, polynucleotide treatments or mesotherapy can be discussed. Where there is volume loss, hyaluronic acid fillers are assessed. At the consultation we first make clear what you are actually hoping for, and then decide together on the route best suited to it.
Safety
Active oncological disease, uncontrolled systemic illness, active infection, pregnancy and breastfeeding either require detailed assessment or rule the treatment out. Sharing your medical history in full is necessary for the right decision to be made.
FAQ
Can anyone have a stem cell application?
No. Suitability is determined by detailed medical assessment and within the applicable regulations. In many cases a more established alternative is the better fit.
Treatment information is general and does not replace a medical examination. Indications, contraindications, expected response and session planning are discussed during consultation.
