What Biolift is
Biolift is a non-surgical treatment in which fine, biocompatible threads are placed beneath the skin with the aim of supporting the tissue. The threads are absorbed by the body over time, and during that process a connective tissue response forms around them which is understood to provide support.
It is not the same as a surgical facelift
This distinction needs to be made plainly. Thread treatments do not deliver the degree of lift or the longevity of surgery. Where there is advanced laxity and a significant excess of skin, the correct answer is surgical; in that situation threads will not meet the expectation and are not recommended.
Biolift is considered for patients with mild to moderate laxity whose skin quality is relatively preserved, and who are not considering surgery, or not yet. Choosing the right patient is the single most decisive part of this treatment.
Where it is considered
- The midface and cheek region
- The jawline and lower facial contour
- Limited lift in the brow region
- Selected indications in the neck
Treatment and recovery
The procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic and takes around an hour depending on the area. Swelling, tenderness and bruising can be present for a few days afterwards, which is an expected response.
For the first week we advise avoiding extreme facial movements, sleeping face-down, strenuous exercise and facial massage. Appointments that hold the mouth open for long periods, such as dental work, should also be deferred during this time.
Risks and when it is not appropriate
Asymmetry, being able to feel the end of a thread, dimpling of the skin and, rarely, infection are reported unwanted effects. Most can be reduced by correct planning and technique.
It is not used where there is active infection at the site, in pregnancy and breastfeeding, in bleeding disorders, or in uncontrolled systemic disease. The use of blood thinners requires separate assessment.
FAQ
Does Biolift replace surgery?
No. Thread treatments do not provide the lift or the longevity of a surgical facelift. Where laxity is advanced the correct answer is surgery, and we say so plainly.
What is the recovery like?
Swelling, tenderness and bruising can last a few days. For the first week we advise avoiding extreme facial movements, sleeping face-down and strenuous exercise.
Treatment information is general and does not replace a medical examination. Indications, contraindications, expected response and session planning are discussed during consultation.
